La Quinzaine des Réalisateurs [Photos]

Hey! We finally added a few photos of Imogen at La Quinzaine des Réalisateurs for her upcoming film Mobile Homes during Cannes Film Festival. Imogen only had a small gap in her busy schedule last week to attend this event (she performed her play ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf‘ once and sometimes twice everyday except for Sundays during the past couple of months). Unfortunately though, most of the photos published by La Quinzaine des Réalisateurs are in black and white but we did manage to find a few colored ones as well. While attending she did press junkets, a Q&A and the screening of Mobile Homes. Take a look!

2017 Cannes: The Hollywood Reporter Interview

We added 150+ HD Screencaps of Imogen from the interview by The Hollywood Reporter at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. She talks a bit about the movie along with her co-stars and the director of Mobile Homes Vladimir De Fonteney. She looks beautiful, we’re not sure why no photos from the festival have surfaced yet, hopefully some will soon. Take a look and visit our facebook page for the video.

Cannes Facetime: Imogen on ‘Mobile Homes’

The British actress Imogen Poots recently seen in “Green Room” and “Roadies” will wrap her theater debut playing Honey in “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” before heading to Cannes with her film “Mobile Homes.” Directed by Vladimir de Fontenay, the movie casts Poots as a woman who drifts from place to place with her boyfriend and young son.

Is it true “Virginia Woolf” Is your first play?

Yes, it’s totally nuts! I wanted to do a play but not just do a play for the sake of it. I wanted to do something I was crazy about. This character is my boyfriend, I spend all my time with her.

Mobile Homes [Poster + New Still]

Four years in the making, French filmmaker Vladimir de Fontenay is finally ready to bring the full force of his award-winning vision to the big screen, thanks to the Directors’ Fortnight premiere of his “Mobile Homes.” Based on his lauded short of the same name (which screened at both the SXSW Film Festival and Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival in 2013, later going on to receive first prize at the Wasserman Awards, NYU Graduate Film School’s top honor, as well as a National Board of Review award), de Fonetnay’s film will bow later this week at Cannes.

Per the film’s official synopsis, “In forgotten towns along the American border, a young mother drifts from one motel to the next with her intoxicating boyfriend and her 8-year-old son. The makeshift family scrapes by, living one hustle at a time, until the discovery of a mobile home community offers an alternative life.

The film stars Imogen Poots as the young mother, with Callum Turner and Callum Keith Rennie both playing supporting parts (what are the odds of that?). In his official director’s statement, de Fontenay explains the personal experience that informed his creation of both the feature and the short, writing, “A few years ago, I was driving through upstate New York and was passed by a mobile home, towed by a massive truck. On the surface it had the appearance of a home, but below there was nothing to ground it. Moving a lot as a young adult, from France to Italy and then to the US (where I lived and studied), that image immediately resonated with me: it symbolized my fear of becoming uprooted, both free and trapped in something in movement, ungrounded and fragile.”

He continued, “I made a short film about a young mother escaping the dangers of her livelihood with her son in a moving mobile home. I cared deeply about the characters, wondering what was going to happen to them after the film ended. I went back to that image of the mobile home in transit and to this mother/son relationship. I started exploring their life through a feature film. The mobile home itself is emblematic of the development of the characters through their changing relationship to it. It seems particularly relevant to me.”

“Mobile Homes” is premiering in Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight section later this week, with a world premiere date set for May 21.

Variety Review: ‘Sweet Virginia’

Part neo-noir, part latter-day Western, this exceptional indie thriller delivers well-acted character insights amid its shadowy, small-town Alaskan setting.

Right out of the gate, the China brothers’ noir-hearted sensibility was being compared to that of fellow film siblings Joel and Ethan Coen, as critics hailed the Australian writer-director duo’s debut “Crawl” as a modern-day “Blood Simple.” On the surface, their 2012 Black List-selected screenplay for “Sweet Virginia” dives further down that rabbit hole, featuring as it does a wife who hires a guy to bump off her own husband (a gender-flipped twist on the basic “Fargo” plot) and a hit man who’s as cold-blooded as “No Country for Old Men” killer Anton Chigurh.

And yet, going deep is what makes “Sweet Virginia” great — heck, more than great. As translated to screen by director Jamie M. Dagg (whose sure hand and smart changes elevate things considerably), Benjamin and Paul China’s script yields one of the gnarliest and most unsettling movies we’re likely to get this year. Set in a remote corner of Alaska, this small-town, blue-collar thriller is surprisingly cast, exceptionally well acted (male leads Jon Bernthal and Christopher Abbott might have easily switched roles, though it’s far more effective in this arrangement), and executed potently enough to leave a lasting impression, like scar tissue after a serious burn.

Mobile Homes to premiere at Cannes Film Festival

Imogen’s upcoming film Mobile Homes written and directed by Vladimir de Fontenay also starring Callum Turner and Callum Keith Rennie will premiere at the Quinzaine des Realisateurs during the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. We added 4 production stills to the photogallery. Looking forward to seeing this film, looks like an interesting watch.

Ali and Evan travel the highways between the United States and Canada. They use Bone, Ali’s eight-year-old son, in their trafficking. The young couple starts to live more and more dangerously. They nevertheless all dream of shelter, a home, but their inexorable flight leads them down a path they hadn’t planned. To find her place in the world, Ali will have to choose between freedom and her responsibility as a mother.

The story is the feature-length version of a 2013 short with the same name but a different cast, also directed by de Fontenay. It won a special jury prize at that year’s Seattle International Film Festival.
